Services for Members
The Society offers a comprehensive service for its members.
Sections
Sections in the Society represent the different branches of psychology. These sections offer their members a forum for discourse; they organize conferences, workshops, and dissertation competitions; and they also edit a newsletter. Members and associate members of the Society may become section members for a minimal surcharge. An overview of sections
Congresses and Conferences
The German Psychological Society organizes a major congress every 2 years. While the entire spectrum of topics in psychology as well as interdisciplinary offshoots are awlays represented, each congress has an individual theme. Alongside presentations of current research results through lectures and posters, state-of-the-art presentations by internationally renowned experts and situation reports are used to depict the current state of the scientific discourse. A General Assembly is also convened during these congresses to make decisions and cast their votes. Members pay a reduced congress fee. Many sections of the Society regularly organize their own conferences and workshops. To the calendar
Journals
The Society publishes its own journal: Psychologische Rundschau (Psychological Review), a forum for discussing current research topics, trends in psychology,
and education issues. The journal contains original scientific articles and commentaries subject to peer review, and a Society forum with short contributions, comments,
and news. In addition, the Society helps to ensure high quality in psychological journals by granting them official recognition if they meet the set standards
(e.g., rotation of [co] editor by nomination, use of peer reviews).
Subscription to the Psychologische Rundschau is included in membership fees, and other journals may also be purchased at a discount. To the journals
Internet Services
The Society's website provides information on current topics in psychology, on subsections and conferences, and on the work of the Executive Committee and the commissions. It announces awards and grants, and puts forward statements for discussion. A publicly accessible experts' databank contains information on the main research foci of members. Access to address information as well as secured information is reserved for members. The Society tries to arrange special publishing deals for its members (e.g., through the Hogrefe Publishing Job exchange).
